BEACH NEWS - replenishment complete

Release Date: July 12, 2016

This opportunity for extra sand is not in lieu of the full replenishment needed due to storms Joaquin and Jonas.  We expect to be in line for a full repair as money is made available by Congress.  The fencing, walkovers, and dune grass will be replaced as needed.

THIS IS A FEDERAL BEACH PROJECT.  Scheduling is determined by the Army Corps.

All beaches in Harvey Cedars are open.
Beach replenishment is complete in Harvey Cedars.

AUGUST 12, 2016 - 12noon
It is anticipated to have beaches closed tomorrow from Hudson south to the border.
Work should be completed in HC Saturday night with equipment clean-up on Sunday.

AUGUST 12, 2016
Beach is closed south of Cumberland to the Harvey Cedars border.
Project will continue moving north and beach closures will occur. 
Anticipated to be done by mid next week.

 
AUGUST 11, 2016 - 11:30am 
The project is moving quickly in Harvey Cedars.
Bergen Ave. beach will be closed today.
Bergen & Cumberland will be closed tomorrow, Friday.

All beaches in Harvey Cedars are open.
The project will reach Harvey Cedars south border in a week.

All beaches in Harvey Cedars are open.
The project is anticipated to be in Harvey Cedars in the next 6 to 7 days. 

 

AUGUST 3, 2016
All beaches in Harvey Cedars are open.
The project is anticipated to be in Harvey Cedars in the next 9 to 10 days.
Approximately 1000 LF will be closed at a time as it moves north to Hudson Avenue.
 
AUGUST 2, 2016
All beaches in Harvey Cedars are open.  Project remains in North Beach near Lagoon Drive South.  The project is anticipated to be in Harvey Cedars in the next 9 to 10 days.

JULY 30, 2016
All beaches in Harvey Cedars are open.  Project is moving north in North Beach towards Harvey Cedars.  Currently it is near Lagoon Drive North in North Beach.
 

July 29, 2016:  Beach Update 
All beaches is Harvey Cedars are open.
The project in North Beach is moving north towards Harvey Cedars. Currently, it is near Lagoon Drive South in North Beach.



July 28, 2016:  Beach Update 
Northern section of Harvey Cedars has been completed.  The contractor's night shift crew was moving the remaining pipeline from Harvey Cedars to the Loveladies worksite.  The crew will be continuing today and should have the beach cleaned up soon.

July 27, 2016:  Beach Update 
12noon - 83rd beach is now open staffed with lifeguards.  86th beach will open by 1pm.

11:15am - 82 to 86th beaches will re-open today.  Stay tuned for the time.  Fences are being moved to Loveladies.  

9am -  The project is moving quickly.  They could be done in the north end of Harvey Cedars today, filling to 82nd Street.  86th through 83rd Street beaches are closed today.

July 26, 2016:  Beach Update

The project remains at 86th Street in Harvey Cedars. 

Beaches closures for the North Beach project are at the south end near Surf City and now at the north end near Lagoona Drive South.




July 25, 2016:  Beach Update

The project is currently at 86th Street in Harvey Cedars.  The 86th Street beach is closed for approximately 1 week.  The project will continue to move south to 82nd Street or further is sand is available.

There is another dredge pumping the south end of North Beach.  It will start moving north to the south end of Harvey Cedars soon.




July 22, 2016:  Beach Update

The project is currently in North Beach heading north and in Loveladies heading south. The project will occur in Harvey Cedars at both ends of the town.  Dates will be fine tuned as the project nears.  Beachfill activities for Harvey Cedars could be occuring in 15 to 20 days.


July 20, 2016:  Beach Update

It has been reported to the Borough of Harvey Cedars that the Long Beach Township beach project plan has been revised and will be moving to Loveladies first instead of North Beach.  Beachfill activities could be occuring in 15 to 20 days at the north end of Harvey Cedars.  Over the next week and a half, production will be assessed and dates will be fine tuned.




July 12, 2016:  **** BREAKING NEWS ****
 
As of today, July 12, 2016, the Borough has been informed the beach project taking place in North Beach will be extended into Harvey Cedars from the south end to Hudson Avenue.
 
This will be a boon to our beach and our protection, all funded by the Army Corps. 
 
The much needed sand is expected to reach Harvey Cedars by the 3rd week in August.  There may be project equipment on the beach.  The north end of town will be slated for extra sand in September.
 
The north end sand will be pumped from the Loveladies project at least to 82nd Street or further if more sand is available.
 
The Borough will redistribute the sand both North and South as best they can to fill in the areas between the pumped sand areas.
